• The Aero EasyFit (AEF) has numerous advantages over the Bike Box Alan “Original” (BBA) but it becomes essential if the integration between the handlebars and frame is such that separating them is not really a practical option or at least very undesirable.
  • There is a handlebar width restriction of 48 cm.  Any wider and it doesn’t fit!!  48 cm is wide for TT/Tri and road bikes.  It’s unusual for the handlebars to exceed this but please check.
  • The AEF is also a good choice for XL frames, although most XL cyclists still chose/need to remove the rear mech.
  • Depending on your frame size you may not have to remove the seat post.  With larger frames the seat post will still have to be removed or lowered.
  • If you have tubeless tyres, then you can fit these with minimal reduction (if any) of the tyre pressures.  The same with tubular tyres.  If you run either of these configurations you will know the issues with deflating the tyres.
  • If you have a solid rear disc wheel then the box has to be specially prepared (removing the standard anti-crush pole). There is a special adaptor for this purpose, but in practice extra padding is a better option.

Packing

  • Remove pedals.
  • Remove wheels and place in the lid and base of the box.
  • Place frame into the box.
  • Done ✔︎

Travel

  • The Aero EasyFit can be slightly more awkward to fit in the back of smaller cars than the regular BBA as it is 20 cm longer and the width increases at one end to 50cm to accommodate the handlebars.  On it’s own this is not necessarily an issue but if you are transporting multiple boxes you need to make sure you have this covered.  Unless you are using a vehicle of significant size, you will have to lower the rear seats.  So that’s a driver, a passenger and your box(s). If there’s anyone else they are going to have to find another ride!!
  • With regard to air travel the AEF should be booked as large sports equipment or bikes, exactly the same as the Bike Box Alan Original. Both the AEF and the BBA will (usually) have to be taken to “Oversized Baggage” once checked.
