Packing Advice

  1. Read this first, and make sure you have the correct tools to dismantle and reassemble your bike.
  2. For more detail read through the “how to pack” page on my website and make sure you watch this video.
  3. There is a specific section for packing with disc brakes if this applies to you.
  4. Also there is a packing list on the website in Word format which you can download here.
  5. If you have disc brakes with thru-axels, and you do not have any quick release skewers these can be provided on request.
  6. If there is anything which is not covered in the posts and pages on my website, and you want to contact me, then please let me have details of the make, model and frame size of your bike.

Wheels and Tyres

  1. Tyre size for a road bike is typically 700 x 25/26 and these are a perfect fit (deflated).  Larger tyres 700 x 30/32 are a bit more of a squeeze.
  2. Clincher tyres are the easiest option and require no attention other than deflation (airline recommendation, but this also makes them easier to pack).
  3. Wheels with tubular tyres will require taping into the lid to hold them in place.  With full deflation the tyres will fall off the rim.
  4. Tubeless tyres can/will lose liquid if deflated which will make a mess of the bike box, your bike and any additional equipment you packed.  As with tubular tyres you can keep them inflated and tape them in place.
  5. For both tubular and tubeless you might consider using the Aero EasyFit bike box as you dont need to take any or much air out of the tyre when packing.
